Marathons are tough mentally and physically. You need to prepare your body for perfectly before the race. You would have put all your training together and the temptation would be to ‘see how you feel’ or do nothing at all.
But in fact you need to do a bit of both.
You would have tapered down your training and running very little last few days, which is good. Then 3 days before the marathon rest for 2 days. Yes rest do nothing no running, no gym,not even a little jog.
Then the day before your marathon go out for a short jog, yes jogging not running for a mile or so. Do it slowly just to loosen up your muscles and get rid of the mental nerves. You can run at your race pace for 100 meters or so may twice or three time during the mile or so jog.
The objective is to arrive at the start of your marathon, rested, ready physically and mentally for fantastic 42km challenge.
So before a marathon rest 2 days (no running or exercise at all) 3 days before and then the day before jog a slow mile or 1 to 2 km run!
